I'm sure Paramount doesn't want the next installment of Mission Impossible to go up against Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Well, we know they don't, because they just changed the release date of Mission: Impossible 5 so the movie would have a better chance at commercial success.
Originally scheduled to open in theaters in December, Paramount has now moved the release date of Mission: Impossible 5 up to July 31, 2015, instead of pushing the film back to 2016. That's two weeks after Marvel's Ant-Man arrives, and it will be going toe-to-toe against Southpaw, Self/Less and the Point Break remake. All of those are easily more beatable at the box office than Star Wars.
Mission: Impossible 5 is directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher). The cast includes Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson. Outside of the cast, nothing is known about the story of the next film.
Mission: Impossible 5 opens on July 31, 2015.
