Nintendo god Shigeru Miyamoto was recently on Smosh Games. Here he played a few rounds of Mario Kart 8 DLC and then talked about some future Nintendo plans. Unfortunately Mr. Miyamoto didn’t come in first in either of the matches but he did represent Toad pretty fiercely.
The bread and butter of this video comes from a particular question about Nintendo’s future plans with a sort of forgotten franchise – F-Zero. Through the translation of Bill Trinen, Miyamoto said:
“We see a lot of other designers who are making more traditional racing style games so we’ve tried to focus on something that feels a little bit more gamey. So maybe if we make a new type of controller interface and we find a particular controller interface particularly suited for F-Zero maybe we’ll do something again with it in the future.”
Just what pray tell would make the perfect F-Zero controller interface? I certainly don’t know but by George I want it. While this information doesn’t being us any closer to a new F-Zero game, it DOES tell us that it’s not completely off Miyamoto’s radar. The amount of effort looked into this ‘controller interface’ is unknown.
During this interview, Miyamoto also mentions that’s he’s been working heavily on the new Star Fox (he claims THAT is the reason he lost in Mario Kart). Mr. Takaya Imamura is also working with him on the new Star Fox who happened to also work with Miyamoto on the original F-Zero. In a perfect world, perhaps they finish Star Fox and directly take their duo to a new F-Zero. A boy can wish can’t he?
The interview talk about F-Zero starts around 5:25. I recommend you check it out but why not watch the whole thing while you’re at it. Enjoy!
