Esports has been picking up steam in the real-world lately, and it's mostly due to Blizzard's efforts with getting city-based Overwatch teams in the works. So far, major cities like Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and more have paid for their own Overwatch teams.
With the Overwatch League growing, Blizzard has been making moves to legitimize their esports efforts even more, by creating an official trademark for the league featuring Tracer.
Blizzard submitted their Overwatch League trademark to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a 30-day review. During that time period, any party that believes the impending registration could harm them has the ability to oppose the trademark or ask for an extension on the trademark's filing to file an opposition.
According to Gerben Law Firm (via Mashable), just one day before the 30-day deadline, MLB requested an extension to oppose Blizzard's trademark.
While the two logos are similar, they are fairly different at the same time. There's no way to confuse the two, as the MLB logo doesn't feature a gun wielding Tracer and Overwatch's logo doesn't have a ball floating in the darker color.
Oddly enough, the MLG logo and NBA logo are pretty similar… Heck, they even have the same colors and a ball!
