Despite Peyton Reed offering us up the greatest sports movie of all time, baseball remains America’s pastime. One can only assume this is because Americans are defined by their aversion to soccer and their collective hate of the metric system. Also, cricket is just a really weird game.
So when Bethesda formally announced Fallout 4 would take place in Boston, iconic city features like Fenway Park and something I learned today is called the Green Monster were naturals to be included. It was also entirely expected that modders would be out in force offering up fun tongue-in-cheek alterations to the game. Which is exactly what Richie Branson did when he made a Boston Red Sox uniform mod which can make you look like David Ortiz.
Turns out the MLB are not a fan of this and have announced their decision to enforce what they see as a violation of their rights. While Branson doesn’t agree with their sentiment, he also admits that it would be a fool’s errand to fight against it if the MLB presses their case, “I'm not rich enough to even think about taking it to court."
"It would be in bad taste for them [to force its removal]," he said. "We know Ortiz is not a zombie-killing, post-apocalyptic warrior. And that's what makes it funny." But do we really know that, Mr. Branson? Do we? No word from Ortiz on his thoughts regarding his visage in the mod or whether or not he is a zombie-killing, post apocalyptic warrior.
I, for one, make no assumptions.
