Major League Gaming‘s Senior Vice President of Operations, Adam Apicella, announced via Twitter today that they are doubling the prize pool for Mortal Kombat at the MLG Winter Championships. Previously, it was announced that the pot for all three fighting games (including Soul Calibur V and King of Fighters XIII) would be $16,700 and pay the top eight finishers. But shortly following news that MLG has raised an additional $13 million in venture capital, the eSports company broke this news:

- 2nd Place: $7,200
- 3rd Place: $4,800
- 4th Place: $3,200
- 5th/6th Place: $2,000
- 7th/8th Place: $1,100
This makes the upcoming Winter Championships at Columbus, OH the largest prize pool ever for a Mortal Kombat 9 tournament.
