Two Mobile Versions of PUBG Launch in China

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been pulling in huge numbers on Xbox One and PC, and now those numbers are bound to increase with the latest releases of two PUBG titles on mobile in China.

Chinese publisher Tencent holds the licensing rights to distribute PUBG in China. The PC version available on Steam, also localized by Tencent, is already massively popular there. The two new mobile titles are set to target over 500 million potential players.

The titles are named PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Army Attack, which focuses on land, sea and air battles, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Exhilarating Battlefield, which reflects the traditional PUBG gameplay. They’ve recently started testing in China. More than 75 million Chinese players have pre-registered for both games.

Mobile gaming is huge in China, as is the PC version of PUBG, so this stands to be a huge market if the games prove to be good. With China’s mobile market, however, there are already a number of similar battle royale titles (read: rip-offs) on mobile. It will be interesting to see how an official swing at the brand will fair among the rest.

Army Attack is being developed by Tencent Timi Studio, while Exhilarating Battlefield is handled by Lightspeed & Quantum Studio. Both are available now, but only in China.

Here’s a developer diary for Exhilarating Battlefield:
