Mojang reveals Minecraft minigames will launch on Xbox One, PS4 & Wii U

But when?

Minecraft mini-games will hit console platform this June, following an announcement made by the title's developer Mojang.

Xbox, PlayStation and even Wii U gamers will be able to play the new minigames and try their hand in battle. Battle matches will contain up to four players, when using split screen, however when you're online, up to 8 people will be able to get involved!

When playing battle matches, you will be handed a number of randomly generated resources. These resources will be found in chests that have been spread across the map and each player will battle it out in a rather free-for-all manner in order to survive.

Paddy Burns, the director of 4J studios, said: “We had a plan at the beginning, when we started the 360 version, that we would look at what the community were doing and add some significant additions to the gameplay.

"Things were pretty busy for a while, so it’s only been in the last year that we’ve built it all."

“Where we are in the lifecycle of the game, we felt it was good time to add different ways to play. We looked at what was happening on the PC at the mods people were making, and thought can we do something like that?”

Some would say this is very much a 'Hunger Games-styled' mode, which it essentially is. The winner of the battle match will be the last one standing.

However, for those that have died and been eliminated from battle, they will be able to fly around and spectate the other remaining competitors as a bat – yet another new feature.

When this 'Battle' mini-game rolls out for console during the month of June it will come with three maps to try out, with more map packs expected to launch in the near future.
