Mojang’s next big game: Scrolls ‘rapidly approaching’ closed alpha

Closed alpha of Mojang's new game Scrolls is "rapidly approaching", according to new announcement on the recently revamped website for the game.

In line with Mojang's development philosophy, Scrolls will follow a similar release pattern of Minecraft. It will be released as a "half finished product" at a reduced price. This will allow gamers to provide feedback and help shape the game into a successful product.

The alpha version of Scrolls will be "far from a feature complete version", but will include multiplayer matches, single player matches vs AI and the Deck Builder, where you will be able to build your decks out of the 100+ scrolls that are currently in the game. Invites for the Scrolls alpha testing should be coming soon, so if you signed up for the test be sure to check your email.

Once the game has a "stable build", Scrolls will enter an open beta, where you will then be able to buy the game at a reduced price and with some added benefits – similar to Minecraft's release. At the open beta point, Mojang will look to include the single player world where you can explore and do battle to earn new scrolls.

Mojang assured players that they have a "big bag of goodies" that they plan to include over time, like an auction house to buy or sell scrolls with others, character customization, items, quest, and more.

"If you’re wondering why we would release a game that’s obviously not finished, the reason is simple: We want your feedback in good time to help us shape Scrolls to be the next big online Collectible Card Game!" Mojang co-founder Jakob Porser wrote.
