PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, colloquially known as PUBG, has done quite well for itself. With an enormous userbase on PC, and an Xbox One base reaching over 3 million, it has broken a number of records in video games. However, after being the top paid game on the Xbox Store for two months, PUBG has finally been dethroned by Monster Hunter World.
Shipping over 5 million units (including digital and retail sales) Monster Hunter World has no doubt been successful, already being called 2018’s first must-play title by multiple publications. Ironically, the beta was only available on PS4, and all pre-release footage was taken from the Sony console as well. Regardless of this fact, the Xbox One version of Monster Hunter World has sold remarkably well.
While unseated from its throne, PUBG still sits at a strong second place and shows no sign of slowing its pace in terms of players, despite the banning of 1.5 million cheaters via Battleye. It will be interesting to see the top paid list a month from now to see if PUBG can reclaim its title.
Monster Hunter World will have to wait until the Fall to join in on the crafting fun when the PC port is released. For now, Monster Hunter World is available on PS4 and Xbox One.
