Newly discovered marketing materials for "The Taken King" (recently trademarked by Bungie) not only suggest that it'll be the next expansion for Destiny, but that there will be some sort of promotional marketing tie-in with Red Bull energy drink.
The leaked images show off cases of Red Bull branded with Destiny: The Taken King content. There's mention of redeeming codes from packs of Red Bull "for bonus XP now & epic quest in Destiny The Taken King."
Interestingly, there's also mention of professional gamer Michael Chaves, aka Flamesword, on the boxes. Chaves is currently sponsored by Red Bull and is most famous for his play in Halo 3. Lately, however, he's been playing lots of Destiny on his stream, which could indicate that this promotional material is legit.
As we learned last month, Activision and Bungie are readying a "major content release" for this fall. Activision has already confirmed they will be showing off Destiny's next expansion at E3, and if these images are true then it looks almost certain to be The Taken King. What that means for the trademarks regarding "Eververse" and "Eververse Trading Co." is unclear, though it's possible it could be related.
What's particularly interesting is the tie-in with Flamesword and Red Bull, both of which are heavily involved in the competitive eSports scene. With this new promotion, perhaps Bungie is trying to market Destiny's PvP as more of a comeptitive eSport.
As for the "epic quest" mentioned, well, I can only imagine the outrage from fans who are already frustrated with the timed PlayStation exclusived content.
Currently, the link shown on the cases "redbullquest.com" redirects to "quest.redbull.com", neither of which have any content yet.
Keep in mind, none of this is confirmed so take it for what it's worth. Could be legit, could be made up. Either way, it's interesting and will spark conversation leading up to E3 this month.
