Enthusiastic modders under the TES Renewal Project banner have shared a lengthy new gameplay video of Skywind. The full conversion mod aims to bring the classic Morrowind experience inside the much more modern Skyrim engine. Check out the impressive demo below!
For over six years has Skywind been in the making so far. A very long time for AAA games even but the ambitious goals of the community project are just too big to expect anything shorter. While technically a mod, you could easily call Skywind a full-blown remake as well. Because that’s what it is.
The modders are trying to recreate The Elder Scrolls Morrowind inside the improved and expanded engine used in The Elder Scrolls Skyrim. To be even more precise, the 2016 Special Edition version.
It’s been one year since our last gameplay demo and a few months since our last developer update. The “Battle at Nchurdamz” represents some of the progress we have made in every avenue of development – world region design, sound effects, quests, 2D concepts, 3D modelling, implementation, mechanics, weather/atmosphere, voice acting, and more.
For anyone who played the original Morrowind back in the day, the improvements at display here are immediately present. From assets to lighting and gameplay, everything looks so much better than the 2002 original.
But with Skyrim’s foundation being already close to a decade old by now, Skywind obviously can’t reach the same fidelity seen in modern games. Nonetheless, it’s a brilliant upgrade and with Bethesda seemingly not having any interest in tackling their older games anytime soon, Skywind is one of the biggest reasons for Elder Scrolls to be excited.
Sadly, there is no release window for the community remake as of now but with Bethesda focusing on a new IP with Starfield before the next Elder Scrolls, chances are Skywind will be out before it either way.
