Mortal Kombat site goes dark as we await new game announcement

The official website for Mortal Kombat was briefly taken down and then restored with just a blank page and a redesigned logo — the same one that appeared on the "Who's Next" poster. It all appears to be in anticipation for the new Mortal Kombat game expected to be announced next week.

Throughout the week, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, who also serves as creative director at NetherRealm Studios, has been teasing all sorts of Mortal Kombat-related things on Twitter. Yesterday, it all culminated with Boon telling indicating that all will be revealed on June 2nd. That's apparently when we find out "Who's Next."

The last Mortal Kombat game was released back in 2011 and acted as sort of a reboot for the series. It was met with tremendous praise, scoring a 9/10 here on GameZone. NetherRealm's last released game was Injustice: Gods Among Us, another fighting game featuring numerous DC Comics characters fighting in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred. That, too, was well-received.
