Earlier this year, we learned that Warner Bros. was appealing to the Australian Classification Board and fighting a ban that took 18 years to put into effect — all to release a game the board had been established to stop.
It looks like the publisher has won.
NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat, the ninth entry in the fighting-game series that was refused by the board in 2011, will release in Australia on May 29. The R18+ rating that was introduced last year allows for more leeway than the MA15+ guidelines did.
"Mortal Kombat was probably the most high profile game to be refused classification in Australia and it feels like a pretty major victory to have it finally be released in Australia," wrote Kotaku Australia.
