Mountain Dew is taking its partnership with Halo 4 to the next level. Having already announced the return of Double XP, today we get the launchHalo 4: King of the Hill — a free, downloadable mobile app that brings the action of Halo 4 "into the real world."
So how does this app work? Using location-based and image recognition technology, the app mirrors Halo 4's King of the Hill concept. 8,000 7-Eleven stores located across the US, UK, and Canada are considered "Hills". Once the player launches the app they will be shown their proximity to these "Hills" and upon entering the store, they can scan Mountain Dew and Doritos products to reload and obtain in-game supplies.
Using these supplies, you can attack the current King of the Hill at a 7-Eleven store location or defend the title from other players. The player with the high score at each location becomes the new "King of the Hill" and have a chance to win the custom Locust helmet, or other in-game rewards like Double XP.
The app is available for download on iOS, Android and Windows Mobile Devices starting today, November 1.
