Taking to social media, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has confirmed a big screen adaptation of Midway's arcade classic Rampage.
This isn't the first we've heard of New Line Cinema's movie adaptation of the popular 80's game, but The Rock did share more details about the film, which begins shooting this summer.
For starters Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal (creators of Colony) have been signed on to write the screenplay for the film. Carlton wrote San Andreas, which also starred The Rock and saw the major destruction of a city, so you know he's the perfect guy for Rampage.
"We have a shot to raise the bar and make something cool with this one as the basic storyline is three mutated gigantic monsters (Silverback, Alligator and Wolf) destroy major cities and landmarks across the US," The Rock explained on Instagram, mentioning Carlton's expertise in "writing big scale with family and heart as the anchor."
While shooting on the film begins late this summer, The Rock plans to spend some time at the San Diego Wildlife Preserve as well as with Anti-Poaching units from Africa for his research.
"If you were a fan of the video game like I was, then you KNOW how bad ass and fun this movie can be. I'll try not to screw it up," he added, probably alluding to his previous work on video game-turned-movie — DOOM, which was not so good.
San Andreas, probably the closest comparison to what a Rampage movie can be like, didn't receive the highest marks, but wasn't because of the lack of action. I think a Rampage movie adaptation is in good hands with director Brad Peyton, producer Beau Flynn, writer Carlton Cuse, and Dwayn "The Rock" Johnson.
