Munch is looking to take a bite out of VR and it’s doing a good job

Remember the good old Feeding Frenzy games? The genre is sort of back and lets players Munch on and on on smaller creatures with a smooth VR twist.

Yes, we know, VR this and VR that, but it is honestly really fun once you get behind the headset and the majority of new games available on hand at ComiCon Stockholm were VR games, so it was an excellent opportunity to try them out.

The Swedish-based team Mostly Harmless Games breathes new life into the fish-eating genre with Munch. From what they showed on the HTC Vive today, Munch is a smooth game which manages to mix both the cartoony art style feeling and reality, anyone who has ever been in and around a reef or a school of fish will feel it. Or as the CEO Alexander Milton puts it:

"Munch is a virtual reality about the struggles of a little fish. The goal of the game is to climb the food chain by eating the smaller fish avoiding, the bigger ones."

This is the type of experience that will win over those still skeptical about VR, which happens to be quite a few from my experience since it manages to show VR in a simple yet effective way. The reality part can be so real that a little kid who was playing it started screaming in fear when the fishes came swimming up to him.

Sweden is packed full of smaller development team making gems like Munch, but this isn’t their only gem. Funklift is an even prettier gem if you have friends to play it with. If you want hidden gems, keep an eye on the Swedish gaming scene, considering the size of the nation it is jam packed with game developers.

You also got to love a developer who at a convention answers the question "where does the queue start?" with "you are press, right? You are the queue."

Munch is set for release sometime in Q1 or Q2 of 2017, while you wait for release go and check the game out for yourself on the official website munchvr.com or on Steam.
