Mutant Football League got its first and only entry on the SEGA Genesis back in 1993 and was developed by none other than Electronic Arts. How the times change, amirite? Now 24 years later Mutant Football League is on the verge of making its return as a modern reimagining is about to wrap up a Kickstarter ten days from now which is already funded.
Mutant Football League didn't just let you win by scoring more points than your opponent either, as killing off enough opposing players worked just as well. The fields were littered with dangers that kept you on your toes to go along with dodging and weaving through the tackles.
This new modern re-imagining of Mutant Football League appears to be borrowing from the classic Arcade game NFL Blitz and combining them with parodies of real NFL teams and players. I love that New England is called the Hatriots. Talk about hitting the nail on the head there.
This isn't the first time that Mutant Football League has attempted a comeback either as back in 2013, the game launched a Kickstarter campaign that was seeking $750,000 and suffice it to say; it never really got close. Fortunately, the second Kickstarter has proven successful, in part because the asking cost was only $60,000 this time. As of right now, the estimated delivery date on the new Mutant Football League is October 2017, so stay tuned for more details in the future.
