Indie developer Renegade Kid rolled out a huge announcement today about its upcoming games and release plans.
First, Mutant Mudds Deluxe, which has already released on Steam and Wii U, is coming to PlayStation 3 and Vita on Dec. 17 for $10. It supports cross-buy and cross-save, meaning players get both versions for one price and can resume save files on either platform, but this only applies to North America right now.
"Delays in Europe for this, and Wii U, are due to the cost and logistical hassle of submitting to the many age rating companies in Europe," wrote designer Jools Watsham in a blog post. "We will eventually get our stuff together and sort it out, but for now we're devoting our efforts towards the development of games instead of dancing with PEGI, USK, and such."
3DS owners (in North America and Europe) will receive a free update "sometime in 2014."
Renegade Kid is making good progress with 2D platformer Treasurenauts, but the game won't launch this year. "The game means a lot to us, and we want to do it right. We need more time to make it the game we want it to be," wrote Watsham. The developer is aiming for a Q1 2014 release.
Meanwhile, 3DS survival-horror game Cult County is also on track. More will be announced next year.
Development of Mutant Mudds 2 is on hold because of Treasurenauts, with Watsham explaining that " it is healthier/better for us to develop a new 2D platform game in between Mutant Mudds and Mutant Mudds 2 to maintain perspective on what Mutant Mudds 2 needs to be," citing past experience with Dementium: The Ward, Moon, and Dementium 2.
Finally, Watsham said that two other games are in the works: a 3DS game that the developer will announce in January and released early-to-mid 2014 and another title that will be revealed "a little later down the road."
