Mysterious countdown clock appears on Assassin’s Creed III website

Ubisoft isn't done teasing Assassin's Creed III.  After revealing the game's American Revolution backdrop for the new game via the Assassin's Creed III box art, the company has now placed a countdown timer on the game's official website.

As we write this, there is approximately 3 days and 2 days left remaining on the clock.

It's also important to note that the website's background features a snowy abyss (the same one shown on the game's official Facebook page) with the Assassin's Creed III logo.

As for what the countdown will reveal, your guess is as good as ours.  The game's Facebook page teases, "Be the first to find out what's happening with Assassin's Creed. Share this countdown to ensure you are the first to know."

We already know the release date and time period of the game, so all that's really left is the game's new protagonist.  Assassin's Creed III says goodbye to long time protagonist, Ezio, and instead introduce a brand new hero to the series.  As of right now, nothing is known about him, but that could change in approximately 3 days.
