NASA throws physics out the door and works on warp drives

I feel like every day there is some sort of new tech emulating Star Wars or Star Trek sci-fi technology;  which, by the way, is freaking awesome if you ask me.  We already got holographic holodeckish stuff on the way, what else can Star Trek offer us?  The answer is obviously warp drives.

You don’t need to be a Trekkie to appreciate the ability to warp from one part of space to another.  Hell, that’s how it should be.  With current technology and whole @#$% load of fuel, it would take decades / centuries to get to another star.  Who has that sort of time?  No one – that’s who.

Screw physics, let’s get dirty with these concepts.  NASA’s Dr. White (possibly a Mega Man protagonist) has calculated that a warp drive could be powered by a mass about the size of the Voyager 1 probe NASA launched back in 1977.  Through the oscillation of intensity over time, the energy would be reduced for space warps.

White told SPACE.com, “The findings I presented today change it from impractical to plausible and worth further investigation.  The additional energy reduction realized by oscillating the bubble intensity is an interesting conjecture that we will enjoy looking at in the lab.”

That’s some fancy talk basically saying warp drives are not only possible, but he’s investigating them now.  I'm no physicist, but this has done a sufficient job of making me excited for this technology.  Dr. White, whatever it is you are doing, keep at it.

Next, transporters… get on that scientists.
