Forget the gender and race politics for a second. You want to see what accessibility looks like? It looks like Naughty Dog's recent blockbuster Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. In a brand new video posted on the official YouTube channel, Emilia Schatz and Alexandria Neonakis of Naughty Dog and D.A.G.E.R. Editor in Chief, Joshua Straub sit down to talk about accessibility in games for those with disabilities.
Straub raises an awareness about Game Development that most have (unfortunately) not considered a serious topic, but really should. He talks about his time with Uncharted 2, where he eventually reached a point in the game that he could not get past. It required a series of button mashing prompts that he couldn't perform without the help of an able-bodied person and after spending a full $60 on the game, Straub was quite disappointed.
If you've played around with the control options in Uncharted 4, you might notice that there are a few additional features you can toggle to make things a bit easier on yourself. Most notable among these, is the ability to eliminate repeated button presses. This allows players to simply hold a button down and Drake will perform the corresponding actions (like punching, lifting doors, etc.).
Regardless, after seeing this video, I'm glad I bought Uncharted 4 on day one. Good on you, Naughty Dog.
