The Last of Us is set to release on PlayStation 3 this summer, and while many (including myself) firmly believe there is a PS4 version awaiting us when Sony's new console arrives, Naughty Dog seems to be saying just the opposite. Replying to a NeoGAF thread, Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer addressed the question of whether or not there are any plans to release the game for PS4.
"Not at this time," confirmed Meyer. "We're focused on shipping for PS3 – thinking about how to bring this over to the PS4 would distract us right now."
Arne did leave the possibility of a PS4 version open, but suspects it would happen once The Last of Us is already released. Last month, I went hands-on with The Last of Us and while it looked absolutely stunning on the PS3, I can't help but wonder how it would play on Sony's next-gen console. Of course, a new console doesn't necessarily mean a much better game. As it was explained to me by TLoU lead designer Jacob Minkoff, "When you switch to new hardware, again, it's got more power, but you don't know how to use it again. So there's no ideal point." For what it's worth, The last of Us squeezes every last drop of power from the PS3.
Let's see what that power amounts to when The Last of Us releases on June 14, 2013.
