Nazis called ‘The Regime’ in German version of Wolfenstein: The New Order

In the German version of Wolfenstein: The New Order, Nazis will be called referred to as the "Regime," Gamespot learned at PAX this past weekend. It's an understandable change given the sensitive nature of the Nazi history in Germany.

"They're a little touchy," Hines told Gamespot. "And so [the Nazis] are called the Regime in Wolfenstein in Germany and it's actually…I'm pretty sure this is the first Wolfenstein game that will ever be released in Germany, but it's completely stripped of all the constitutionally banned content."

By stripping the game of Nazi imagery, like swastikas, it'll allow Ubisoft to release the game in the country. The publisher recently ran into the same issues with the German version of South Park: The Stick of Truth, which also had Nazi imagery at points. Hines noted that despite the new name, the "Regime" will still look Aryan and speak with German accents.

At PAX East we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Wolfenstein: The New Order and though we had a few issues with it, it's still a fun to run and gun some Nazis or, um, Regime. Wolfenstein: The New Order releases on May 20, 2014.
