The NBA 2K series is regarded as one of the best sports game franchises out there. Not only is it a simple yet in-depth basketball simulator with great gameplay, it offers a rich story mode filled with twists and turns and the series continues to sell and review well each year.
With 2K18, players will be able to experience the basketball sim in a whole new way. 2K will be putting NBA 2K18 on the Nintendo Switch and some fans have been worried that the game will be hit with downgrades and have features removed. Luckily, 2K has been able to keep the Switch counterpart almost completely identical to the PS4 version of the game.
NBA 2K18 on Nintendo Switch will feature every single mode in the Xbox One and PS4 versions including the same story mode and the new online social space called The Neighborhood. The game does take a hit with the graphics and the framerate will be 30 FPS rather than 60 but it's a pretty great trade off. This means players can take the best basketball sim with them wherever they go and barely feel like they're missing out on anything.
Additionally, the game will have Amiibo support on Switch. It isn't clear how this will be integrated into the game but it'll likely unlike new content, potentially jerseys, shoes, or something cosmetic.
This is a major win for the Nintendo Switch and shows that the console has lots of potential if developers are willing to invest time and effort into the platform. Maybe if 2K and EA see success this year, we can get more fleshed out sports games instead of slightly lesser versions like FIFA 18 on Switch.
NBA 2K18 releases on September 19th, 2017 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
