‘Nearby’ feature revamped in Pokemon GO’s latest update

Pokemon GO trainers have been left frustrated ever since Niantic removed the steps system from Pokemon GO's Nearby tracking feature, and now it has changed again with a new update.

In the absence of a properly-working Nearby, gamers have gravitated towards other means of tracking Pokemon within the game, such as PokeVision – but the website has since been shut down.

This has meant that the time between PokeVision being made unavailable and Niantic bringing out this new update, it could be argued that Pokemon GO has been pretty much useless.

Now, however, Niantic has put together a brand new update for Pokemon GO, chiefly to fix some of the games bugs. Patch details where revealed by the app's official Twitter account today, as seen below:

Notes that have been released for Pokemon GO's latest update (0.33.0 for Android and 1.3.0 for iOS) include:

  • Extra dialog to remind Trainers that they should not play Pokemon GO while traveling at speed. The game now asks you to confirm that you are the passenger of a vehicle, as opposed to the driver.
  • Improvements introduced in regards to the accuracy of a curveball throw.
  • The bug that prevented gamers from seeing ”Nice,” ”Great,” and “Excellent” Poké Ball throws has been fixed, with XP bonuses making a return.
  • Incorrect Medal icons have been fixed.
  • Trainers can now change their nickname once, so make sure you pick something you want to stick with.
  • Issues with the battery saver mode on iOS have been resolved and the feature has been re-enabled.
  • More Team Leaders visuals for Candela, Blanche, and Spark have been added.
  • A new version of the Nearby Pokemon feature is being tested with a "subset of users," with variation very much a possibility in terms of nearby Pokemon UI.
  • Minor text fixes are also included.

So, are you happy with the changes that have been made?
