NES Remix exploit causes Nintendo to cancel contest

See Nintendo fans, this is why you can't have nice things — because you're cheaters. Not all of you, but apparently enough players have been exploiting NES Remix to cause Nintendo to cancel a "Time Attack Challenge" event.

Offering a twist on 1983's Mario Bros., players were tasked with controlling two Mario characters at the same time. The person who achieved the fastest clear time would have their run officially recorded and presumably shared by Nintendo. That won't be happening anymore.

"Unfortunately, we confirmed that there is a way to exploit the challenge to achieve a faster time," game director Koichi Hayashida wrote in the comment section of the event. When pausing the game, there appears to be a short delay between when gameplay resumes and when the clock continues, allowing users to shave off seconds of their time. "In the interest of being as fair as possible, we decided to terminate the event without recognizing the fastest time."

"We know that you dedicated a lot of time and effort towards achieving your fastest time possible. We sincerely apologize for this matter, particularly because the vast majority of people played fairly," he added, as if that would help ease the pain.

There ya have it, a few HGH users spoil the game for the rest of us.
