Back in October it was reported that Netflix had plans to launch its service in the UK and Ireland in early 2012. Today, it looks like the first steps were taken to bring the streaming service as users in the UK noticed a new Netflix app on the XMB of PS3.
It is currently available for download now, but you can not currently access the service. All you can do, as of now, is sign up to receive an email alert when Netflix does become available in the UK.
Netflix is going up against LoveFilm, who today announced signings with BBC and ITV for new and archive shows including Dcotor Who, Spooks, Prime Suspect, and Above Suspicion. Amping up the competition, Netflix has also announced deals with BBC Worldwide and the studios Lionsgate UK, Miramax, and MGM for their content.
Hopefully, this initial appearance means the official Netflix app will be available sooner rather than later.
