Netflix is testing in-app advertisements, but not the kind you think

Netflix is holding a limited test in the Xbox 360 Netflix App that teases Netflix original shows before the show of your choice begins. The 'tease' will be similar to an advertisement that airs prior to an HBO original shows.

The advertisement on Netflix will work like this: A Netflix user chooses to watch Anthony Bourdain No Reservations, prior to the show beginning a short advertisement for a Netflix original like House of Cards/Marvel's Daredevil/Orange is the New Black will air.

Netflix has assured users that this is only testing and will only show ads for their series'. We will not be seeing ads for Pizza Hut, movies, or video games before shows on Netflix. They even went on to say that many of their tests never go through to become a part of the actual app.

"We are not planning to test or implement third-party advertising on the Netflix service," said Netflix. "For some time, we've teased Netflix originals with short trailers after a member finishes watching a show. Some members in a limited test now are seeing teases before a show begins. We test hundreds of potential improvements to the service every year. Many never extend beyond that."
