'Heroes' actor, Masi Oka, is attached to produce and star in the upcoming 'Death Note' movie for Netflix.
The new American produced 'Death Note' movie has been stirring up some speculation considering the status the beloved anime has in the community. The casting announcements have had to endure a particular amount of criticism considering the mostly Caucasian cast, namely Nat Wolff as the protagonist and wielder of the Death Note, Light Turner, and Willem Dafoe as the mischievous "shinigami" (angel of death), Ryuk.
Despite the controversy, the project seems to be coming along smoothly and fans appear to be warming up to the venture. Due sometime next year, it seems the project will be getting some help from a much needed "hero". Masi Oka, known best as 'Heroes' Master of Time and Space, Hiro Nakamura, is attached to both produce and star in the movie. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Oka spoke about his departure from 'Hawaii 5-0', as well as his current projects in the works:
Whatever is ahead, I’m very fortunate to be able to do things also behind-the-scenes, creating some TV shows and also producing a lot of movies. I recently finished producing Death Note for Netflix, which I have a part in as well.
Oka goes on to mention that he will be involved in the upcoming adaptation of Steve Alten's prehistoric shark thriller, 'Meg'. There's still no word, however, on who he will play in 'Death Note', but its likely whatever his involvement, it should prove to be a truly memorable endeavor for fans and newcomers alike.
