Netflix will be adding Telltale games; Stranger Things game in the works

As Telltale continues to blur the lines between cinematic content with video games, Netflix has made a unique partnership with the developer of the game to make interesting content with and for Netflix.

In the future, Netflix will premiere five episodes of Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode as a piece of “interactive content” on the streaming service, something Netflix has been testing the waters with in the form of some of their children’s shows. It’s not entirely clear how this will work and Netflix is being strangely vague about the whole thing, more details will come about the whole thing functions at a later date.

“We can confirm Minecraft: Story Mode is a licensed 5-episode interactive narrative series coming to our service this fall. It’s an extension of our other interactive stories we have on our service like Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile.Netflix said in a statement.

Netflix also confirmed that they’ve given Telltale the license for Stranger Things to make a game but it will be released as a traditional Telltale game across consoles, PC, and wherever else they choose to put it. This is not planned for the streaming service at the moment.

The streaming company is very adamant that they are NOT entering the gaming industry by any means and this Telltale agreement seems to be them approaching what games from that studio make the most sense to add to the service on a case by case basis.

“We don’t have any plans to get into gaming. There’s a broad spectrum of entertainment available today. Games have become increasingly cinematic, but we view this as interactive narrative storytelling on our service.

We don’t know when either Minecraft: Story Mode for Netflix or Stranger Things will release but sources say that there have been playable demos for the streaming experience for the last year.
