The Legend of Zelda, a series of games revolving around a young Kokiri boy on a quest to save Princess Zelda, is rumored to have a live-action adaptations series — coming exclusively to Netflix.
The Wall Street Journal broke the news, claiming that a source said that Netflix is working closely with Nintendo on the new series, whose franchise has only had one animated cartoon series in 1989. Historically speaking, the only other live-action movie based on a Nintendo franchise, Super Mario Bros., did not perform well when it released in 1993. Among the criticism was were complaints that the movie had pretty much nothing to do with the iconic game series. So what does that mean for Zelda?
Well, apparently the Zelda series will have a kid-friendly tone, which of course makes sense considering Nintendo's long standing kid-friendly position. Think Game of Thrones but for the whole family. That's what we want right?!
Oh man, I'm not even sure what to think about this. My gut reaction is saying this is horrible, horrible idea. Making a live-action series based off of a franchise that has a silent protagonist can't be a good idea. But on the other hand, curiousity has the best of me. I'm simply too curious to see how it would turn out for me to be completely against it.
This is just a rumor as of right now, since both Netflix and Nintendo declined to comment. So if you'll excuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, I'm going to go start my second playthrough of Majora's Mask. The game's good by the way, check out my review.
