Neverending Nightmares is heading to PS4

Neverending Nightmares, the horror game developed by Infinitap Games that focuses on the struggles of depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, is making its way to the PlayStation 4 on May 3 and will retail for $14.99.

Matt Gilgenbach, the Lead Designer on the game, says that Neverending Nightmares is a reflection of the struggles with mental illnesses he has suffered throughout his life. Although the game is not necessarily a autobiographical account of his life, he says that the feelings and ideas expressed in the game certainly are.

He says:

The stylized impressionistic black and white art style influenced by Edward Gorey creates a bleak, dark, dramatic atmosphere and emphasizes the feelings of hopelessness. We used animated pen shading lines constantly animating towards you, designed to make you feel as if the world is closing in — a feeling often associated with mental illness. The haunting dark ambient score amplifies the tension as you explore progressively worse nightmare-scapes as the game progresses.

Combat is nota central part of the game, and is actually a very quick way to get yourself killed. The protagonist is actually asthmatic, so he tires out pretty quickly. This forces the player to strategize how and when to exert physical energy, creating an all new kind of experience.

Neverending Nightmares is currently available on Steam and is on sale at 50% off through April 25.
