New Akai Katana trailer is bullet heaven

The the word "shooter" likely has most gamers thinking of Halo or Call of Duty, arcade junkies will likely turn their thoughts to the classic 2D bullet hell gameplay of former classics like Gradius and R-Type. Thankfully, Japanese arcade moguls Cave have continued to push the boundaries of sanity with their games' extraordinarily beautiful bullet patterns, which threaten to tear through your tiny ship at any moment.

This new one, looks like more of the same. And that, we like.

Akai Katana puts the sword in players' hands as they take on a tyrannical empire of bloodshed to restore peace and order to the world they once knew. Akai Katana combines the adrenaline-filled gameplay of today's bullet hell genre with the spirit of adventure offered through a true side-scrolling experience.

What do you think? Is Akai Katana a Halo killer?
