New Ant-Man images and plot details emerge

So we were treated to the first teaser trailer for Ant-Man from Marvel earlier this week, and it was surprisingly serious in tone. Nevertheless, it's Marvel so that means two things: $$$ and hype.

This week's EW cover story revealed some new Ant-Man images and some revealing quotes from the cast and crew. We all knew that the script had some trouble before and after director Edgar Wright departed over creative differences, and that was confirmed. While the official screenplay credits go to Paul Rudd and Adam McCay (and "story by" going to Wright and Joe Cornish), Rudd said the foundation of the movie is the same one that Wright and Cornish wrote.

Rudd said, "The bones of it is really Edgar and Joe. It's been an emotional roller coaster, but I'm excited now." He also said that he was "devastated" when Wright left the film. The same goes for co-star Evangeline Lilly, who had yet to sign her contract when Wright left. She actually refused to sign the contract until she saw a new, completed script and admitted "I got held off for months. Marvel knew [that first revised screenplay] wasn't good. They just knew it was in the direction they wanted."

EW and director Peyton Reed said this of the opening sequence setting up the plot:

When we first meet Lang, he is in prison for stealing from the CEO of a company that was itself stealing from its employees. "There's a prison fight and you've got to buy Paul in that role," says Reed. Lang longs to go straight — he has a young daughter he wants to build a relationship with — but when he leaves the big house, he ends up nabbing Pym's Ant-Man suit. Was he set up? "There might be stuff going on that Scott doesn't know about that's a lot bigger than him," Reed says.

At the center of the film is a heist that involves stealing the Yellowjacket suit — a version of the Ant-Man technology that Pym's former protégé Darren Cross developed. Michael Douglas' Hank Pym trains Lang to thwart Cross.

In addition to that information, we've been treated to an exclusive short clip from Ant-Man. Enjoy!

Sorry… we couldn't help ourselves. And neither can Paul Rudd.
