New Australian rating for Red Dead Redemption 2 possibly leaked PC port

The official classification board of Australia has very likely confirmed the PC port for one of the most requested console exclusives, Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar’s epic western title launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October last year and cemented itself as one of the most successful games of the generation. The new rating doesn’t specifically state the PC but it is a separate entry to the console version rating. The belated PC port of GTAV followed the same procedure.

Ever since Rockstar announced the sequel to their original open-world Wild West classic of last-gen, gamers on the PC platform were hopeful to finally not only get a RDR game on their preferred platform but also for it to come out day-and-date with the consoles. These hopes were ultimately crushed as RDR2 firmly stayed a PS4 & Xbox One exclusive, with no word even being uttered about a PC version. A real kick in the gut for millions of PC users who have been enjoying Rockstar’s previous juggernaut GTAV as a belated port.

It turns out that the immense popularity of GTAV on PC didn’t lead to Rockstar prioritizing the home computer as an initial release platform. This obviously infuriated many a PC gamer as they felt being treated like second-class customers who are regularly treated either as an afterthought. Even worse, many suspect Rockstar to deliberately release GTAV and now Red Dead Redemption 2 with a significant delay to encourage gamers to double-dip. Once on consoles and later on PC where they can enjoy higher visual fidelity and performance.

Of course, it’s all venting by disgruntled gamers, and in the end many will quickly forget once Red Dead Redemption 2 does indeed launch on the PC. Rumors about a PC port have been persistent since the game’s launch and with various leaks supporting them, today’s news doesn’t really come as a big surprise. But with close to a year of waiting, it sure would be nice to finally get actual confirmation that the PC port is indeed coming soon. With Rockstar just recently having launched their own PC game launcher/store, it sure does look like a certainty where the game will be sold through.
