Disney's Lucasfilms is not working on one, but five Star Wars films; There's Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens, Star Wars Episode 8, Star Wars: Rogue One, and untitled Han Solo anthology film and an untitled Boba Fett anthology film. While not all of them are in production yet, they are definitely in development.
The Han Solo film is set for a 2018 release and will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,The LEGO Movie, and the 21 Jump Street) and written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi). Basically, the Han Solo film is in good hands.
According to a conversation between Entertainment Weekly and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Han Solo will be nice and young in the upcoming film, and it won't be a tell-all on Han's life. We can't help but wonder how much story we will get in the film and how much will be a mystery.
“Those are exactly the questions we’re asking,” Kennedy said to Entertainment Weekly. “There’s got to be a reason for [the stand-alone film] to be. And obviously the thing that Star Wars has always done so well is it doesn’t spend a lot of time [explaining] the stories that have come before. We don’t want to do that either. We don’t want to spend time going back and answering a lot of questions that, quite frankly, I don’t think people want answered.”
Don't worry though, when we said that it would be a young Han Solo – he won't be a child, but will be around "the high teens, low 20s,” according to Kennedy. Harrison Ford definitely won't be making an attempt to reprise his role in that film…
The untitled Han Solo film is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
