New footage of cancelled Avengers game emerges

Prior to THQ's shuttering in 2012, the studio had been workig on a big-budget superhero game tied to Marvel's The Avengers movie. The game, tentatively titled "The Avengers: The Movie," was designed as a first-person action game in which you could play as members of the Avengers; however, it was cancelled in the wake of THQ Australia's closing.

While we've seen leaked footage of the cancelled game previously, a brand new video, courtesy of Unseen 64 and DidYouKnowGaming, has emerged, offering more gamplay footage, assets, and even details about the game's development.

The Avengers: The Movie was being developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 primarily as a first-person action game with an emphasis on co-op play (up to three friends or AI-controlled companions). In the game, you'd have been able to play as Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, or Captain America, with Black Widow and Hawkeye planned as unlockable characters (imagine how much the internet would've freaked if the main female character wasn't available at the start).

Esteemed Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis was reportedly involved in the project and even crafted a story for the game, which appeared similar to the Secret Invasion comics series.

Check out the full video of the ambitious project below, and reminisce in what could have been.
