While many Star Wars fans were asking "Where's Rey" over the apparent (not so apparent if you actually looked) lack of toys surrounding the film's main character, Ghostbusters fans have nothing to worry about. The four new leading ladies in the upcoming reboot will each be getting their own figurines, despite not being men.
Director Paul Feig took to Twitter to reveal Mattel's new prototype. Check out all four below.
From left to right: Kristen Wiig (Erin Gilbert), Melissa McCarthy (Abby Yates), Leslie Jones (Patty Tolan), Kate McKinnon (Jillian Holtzman). I just hope retailers can figure out which aisle to put them in because what sort of boy would want to play with these toys clearly designed for girls?
I kid, obviously (Note: It's sad I have to point out my sarcasm, but who knows how the hypersensitive internet will react).
While I wholeheartedly disagree with the whole #WheresRey "movement" on social media, there's no denying that most other female characters from movies and television shows have lacked equal representation compared their male counterparts. The fact that each of these four new female characters are (deservedly) getting their own action figures speaks volumes to the progress being made in the toy industry. And I hope we can take some time to celebrate this progress, as it's often far too easy to focus only on things to complain about.
Despite much of the film's plot still remaining a mystery, we recently learned some of the ghosts these ladies will be busting when Paul Feig's Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15, 2016.
