The Halloween movie series is one of the most iconic horror franchises. Although it was once considered one of the best franchises in the genre, many would agree it has become one of the worst or most mediocre over the last few entries. Despite a somewhat alright reboot, the series has become a shell of what it once was.
Comedian Danny McBride and Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green are looking to change that. The two have been announced as a writing team on a new Halloween film. Green will take over as director while McBride helps him write a script.
Halloween creator John Carpenter made the announcement on Facebook and said he will serve as a producer and MAYBE even score the film.
"David and Danny both came to my office recently with [Blumhouse Productions founder Jason Blum] and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away," Carpenter said. "I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool."
The film is set to release in October of 2018 and Carpenter himself even said last year he's ready for the series to return to form.
"I feel like the movies have gotten away from that," he said at the time. "Michael [Myers, the series' iconic killer] is not just a human being; he's a force of nature, like the wind. That's what makes him so scary."
Despite his comedic background, McBride is no stranger to horror. Danny McBride will star in the sequel to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, this summer.
If the movie remains on track, it's likely the movie will begin filming near the end of this year or very early in 2018. Stay tuned to GameZone for updates on the untitled Halloween film.
