New Hitman will not release as a full game

Content drops will be a defining feature of this game

When IO Interactive and Square Enix release the new Hitman game on December 8th, it won't be released as a full game. A 'sizable chunk' of Hitman will release on that date, but the rest of the game will release throughout 2016 until the story arc is complete.

Players will have to look forward to the timed released of DLC (locations and missions), all of which will be covered by the initial cost of $60 for the game. The developers are taking care not to associate their game to the word 'episodic,' the content that will be released will be episodic in nature. The story will be broken up into separate content drops, making it seem episodic – Square Enix and IO Interactive understand that.

The content will not be only focused on the story, it will also feature live events.

The new Hitman will release digitally on December 8th and will make a physical release in 2016 – presumably when the story arc for the game is complete. The game will have an offline mode for locations and missions, but an internet connection will be necessary to play the live events, download updates or see things like leaderboards, you’ll need to be online.
