The original Independence Day is remembered for two things: the most iconic speech ever given by a United States president, and some pretty badass visual effects. I can't guarantee a speech on par with Bill Pullman's in this sequel, but judging by the new teaser, we're in for quite a visual treat when Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters this summer.
20th Century Fox has released an explosive new teaser for the highly anticipated sequel, and though it's only just 46 seconds in length, it features more than enough destruction to get us hyped.
For those who need some setup, Independence Day: Resurgence picks up years after the original alien attack. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have united to build an immense defense program to protect the planet. But will it be enough to fend off this new extra-terrestrial threat?
"Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction," the description teases.
Independence Day: Resurgence explodes into theaters on June 24, 2016. Much of the cast appears to have returned, including Jeff Goldblum and BIll Pullman. Will Smith, unfortunately, is not in the sequel; however, it does appear that Col. Hiller's son Dylan (played by Jessie Usher) will fill the shoes of his old man and help save mankind. Liam Hemsworth, who plays Jake Morrison, will also star in the film.
