The Jumanji reboot has been detailed as being a "continuation" of the first and the set photos have definitely suggested a different tone for the film. New details have further established that this movie will not be the Jumanji we know.
While the 90's version of Jumanji featured a board game that brought havoc with it, the reboot is ditching the board game for a "90's era video game console." According to a description detailed by TheWrap from Sony Pictures' CinemaCon 2017, the reboot will follow a "group of misbehaving teens" that "find the console during a detention session in their high school and are transported into the game itself ."
That's where Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan come into play, instead of having the disruptive teens in the game, they take on alter-ego avatars, AKA the big name actors.
This new Jumanji film will honor Robin Williams "in an earnest and cool way", according to Johnson, so we are very excited to see what they have up their sleeve. After originally being due to release around Christmas 2016, the film's release date was officially pushed back to July 28th, 2017.
