When a video game is adapted into a movie there's always the hope that the main protagonist of the movie is at least familiar with the source material. It would be even better if the main actor played the game. Luckily for Tomb Raider fans, Alicia Vikander is familiar with the game series.
Beating Daisy Ridley for the role, Vikander (best known for playing Ava in Ex Machina and her role in The Danish Girl) used to secretly play Tomb Raider in secret as a child.
“I kept it secret – I didn’t have many girlfriends who shared that interest, but I really loved it," she says in an interview in the new issue of Total Film magazine (via GamesRadar). "I did play Tomb Raider back then, even though my parents said I wasn’t allowed to.”
We can only hope that Vikander puts some time into playing the newest games so she has an idea on who she is portraying. With Vikander having put some time into one of the games, there's a tinge of hope that the Tomb Raider movie reboot won't be too awful (I have no faith in movie adaptations of games.)
