New details on the highly anticipated game — The Last Guardian has been revealed thanks to a recent early impression interview with Edge Magazine.
Edge sat down with designer Fumito Ueda and showed them a little portion of the game which includes a new mechanic where Trico, the giant cat-like bird, shoots out lasers from his tail and then the main character must use his "mirror shield" to cut out new sections in the environments.
Trico will apparently be a "free-spirited creature that flagrantly disregards your attempts to tame it." The "lack of complete control" of the creature is important to Ueda "because there are a lot out there where you can do that. I think I've had enough of them."
“The amount of code is very large compared to AI in conventional games. We’ve given this creature its own desires, so depending on what action it wants to take, that affects everything, including its animation. It’s not like a normal humanoid character.”
In addition to some new behind close door gameplay, Ueda also reconfirms that 2016 is the year The Last Guardian will finally release.
“Since this is the year we will see the game’s release, I do have some worries, but I’m also very excited.
The Last Guardian was first unveiled back at E3 2009, so fans have been waiting for quite the time; hopefully, it lives up to everything it set out to be. We will most definitely hear more about The Last Guardian at this year's E3, which is only a couple weeks away.
