Ever wonder how Amumu became the "Sad Mummy" we all know him as in League of Legends? Well, thanks to a new music video from developer Riot Games we now know "The Curse of the Sad Mummy." And it'll leave you in tears.
Emotional lyrics aside, the video features some pretty impressive animation. I absolutely love the style, and hope to see more of this in the future. From the sound of it, we will.
Last year, Riot announced plans to rewrite the League of Legends lore in an effort to expand the scope beyond its original focus.
“The institutions we’d designed fostered creative stagnation, limiting the ways that champions, factions and Runeterra itself could grow and change," Riot's Tommy Gnox explained at the time. Furthermore, the very idea of all-powerful Summoners made Champions little more than puppets manipulated by godlike powers. The background we’d created to explain in-game action was ultimately restricting the potential narrative development of the game’s defining characters."
Part of that expansion includes pursuing "a more dynamic and wide-ranging world fit for the outsized capabilities and personalities of our champions."
Having said that, though, Riot assured that champion identities will remain constant. “Exploring champions’ backstories and motivations beyond what you see in the game doesn’t mean they’ll suddenly start feeling like different characters; what it does do is offer a huge spectrum of options for fleshing out personalities and deepening connections,” Gnox said.
The video above is proof of that.
