We know that the second season of Daredevil has started filming and will be released sometime in 2016 on Netflix. The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal recently joined the cast as The Punisher, while Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe Retaliation) has been cast as Elektra. What we don't know is when the rest of the Defenders (made up of (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) will be making their way to Netflix.
According to Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos, Marvel's Jessica Jones will be arriving in the fourth quarter of this year – that means we will be seeing Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23) as Jessica Jones and David Tennant as the main villain Zebediah Kilgrave sometime between October and December. We knew the show would be coming sometime this year, but this gives us a better idea.
“I think ideally there will be a rhythm of about every six months you’ll get a new season or a new series from the Defenders group,” Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos said. “And then they’ll crossover into a combined [Defenders] season once we’ve launched the first season of each of the four characters. Some will selectively have multiple seasons as they come out of the gate. So they’ll probably be two launches a year.”
October seems like the safest bet, as these shows are said to be planned to release every six months. If this is the plan, Dardevil season two will release around April, Luke Cage will show up around October 2016, Iron Fist should follow in 2017 with the Defenders cross-over that combines all of these heroes into one show should come in late 2017.
All of this is assuming that none of these shows get follow-up seasons. If they do… We won't be seeing Marvel's Defenders for a long, long time.
