At SXSW Interactive festival over the weekend, Gearbox teased a new playable class coming to Borderlands 2. A cell phone-captured video showed a short clip that suggests the sixth playable character will be melee focused. The silhouetted character can be seen punching enemies so hard that blood and parts of their body fly everywhere.
The trailer says: "Deep beneath Pandora, an experiment has escaped. Bandits beware. A new Vault Hunter is coming. More mayhem awaits."
In addition to the four classes the game launched with — Gunzerker, Assassin, Siren and Commando — the fifth class was Gaige, the Mechromancer. She was the first DLC for Borderlands 2 and was made available for free on October 9 for those who pre-ordered the game. If you didn't pre-order, she cost $9.99 on the PlayStation Store or 800 Microsoft points on Xbox LIVE. It's reasonable to assume that this new melee class will cost the same amount.
Of course, we will have more details as they arrive.
