New Mirror’s Edge Catalyst screenshots flaunt a gorgeous city

DICE is really pushing Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, and not just its parkour. The studio has put quite a bit into the unlikely sequel’s characters and atmosphere since it was first revealed in 2015. Continuing that trend today is a new batch of screenshots showcasing the game’s central city, Glass.

As DICE said on Catalyst's website, Glass is broken into (at least) three districts: Anchor, a neon maelstrom of affluence and nightlife; Downtown, built from industrious aisles of pristine white; and The View, a residential area that prefers violet to violent.

Each area seems to feature a unique aesthetic, all with a focus on color. Anchor is heavy on blues and blacks, Downtown loves its yellows and The View is unabashedly purple. Of course, we know there is plenty more to see in Catalyst (it wouldn’t be Mirror’s Edge without all the red), but while these images may not perfectly represent Glass as a whole, they do offer a clearer picture of its structure.

DICE also outlined the three factions ferreting around Glass: the aptly named Runners, to which protagonist Faith presumably belongs; the Brave New World-esque Conglomerate, which ultimately governs Glass; and Black November, an infamously violent pack of rebels. Together with the game’s previous story trailer, these factions lend further definition to the world of Catalyst.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will release for PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 24, 2016.
