New Nintendo 3DS/XL not coming to U.S. or Europe this year

Markets are just different these days...

On October 11th, Japan saw the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS/XL. The handhelds sold 234,000 in the first week, which is the largest first-week sales of a remodeled device that Nintendo has seen.

While Nintendo apologizes for the shortage in supply of New Nintendo 3DS/XL's, they aren't planning in expanding the handhelds to new markets soon.

In the Semi-Annual Financial Results Briefing, Nintendo stated that they "do not plan to launch New Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL for the U.S. or Europe this year." The decision not to expand to new markets yet came from the fact that the cumulative sales of the original 3DS in both the U.S. and Europe do not surpass Japan's. It seems as though the 3DS is still in an "earlier stage of popularization' both markets.

We aren't sure when we will be seeing the New Nintendo 3DS/XL in the U.S. or Europe, but we can only hope that they arrive in early 2015.
