New PlayStation boss tells fans to “not worry” about Games as a Service overtaking the platform

Gaming has come under more scrutiny than ever these last few years, and Games as a Service is just the latest thing to fan the flames of angst among gamers everywhere. It’s an unfortunate thing, but as games become more prominent, so too are how companies try to make more money off of them (which is their right). However, PlayStation it seems won’t be diving headlong into the GaaS foray just yet.

A recent tweet from new PlayStation boss John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera to a fan indicates that the company isn’t planning on killing off single-player games in favor of the Games as a Service model.

Kodera’s claim can be backed up by not only PlayStation’s history but their upcoming release calendar as well on the 1st party front. God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, and Days Gone all appear to be dedicated single-player experiences and past titles such as Horizon: Zero Dawn and Persona 5 only serve to back-up that claim.

It’s easy (too easy) for fans to get nervous about such things when change is such a constant in this industry. There are so many different studios making a diverse array of games that if one company is making a game with features, you don’t like, you don’t have to buy it and actually miss out on anything.

The Shadow of the Colossus Remake is the first of PlayStation’s dedicated single player games to come out this year, and it will launch on February 6th, 2018.
